What could be stowed in the overhead bin?
Inquiring minds would sure love to know.
Ponder the answer – you know you could win
One-thousand bucks—now that’s a lotta dough!
Inquiring and pondering were vague references to the questions asked of the Magic 8-Ball.
October 1, 2013 – Clue #2
Pack your things above carefully and tight
Or the Three Stooges you will resemble
As shifting often occurs during flight
Causing items to shake and to tremble.
There was a Three Stooges episode in the 50's that had them looking into a giant 8-Ball, using it as a crystal ball.
October 2, 2013 – Clue #3
If you’re hoping for things to go your way
And admit it; you always want it to
Don’t question luck or think this is child’s play
Or you’re better off bidding it adieu.
Child's play referencing the fact that it's sold as a game to children, although adults play with it too!
October 3, 2013 – Clue #4
What’s in the darn overhead bin, you ask?
Give some focus to your daily docket.
Organize your thoughts and take them to task!
It’s the last thing to drop in your pocket!
Anyone who has played the billiards version of "8-Ball," knows that you sink the 8-ball last in the pocket.
October 4, 2013 – Clue #5
Some call it a charlatan or gypsy
A mermaid drawing sailors from the sea.
Addictive, but it won’t leave you tipsy
Amused for the most part, to a degree.
Charlatan and gypsy references to the "crystal ball" mystic feel of the Magic 8-Ball. The sea, making a veiled reference to the liquid inside of the Magic 8-Ball.
October 7, 2013 – Clue #6
Seeking black and white—it’s rarely the case.
Half of the time is positive; it’s true
But uncertainty creeps and you must brace
For a big ol’ cup of negative stew.
The colors black & white are blatant references to it. Plus, exactly half of the responses are of affirmative or positive nature on the multi-faceted die that is enclosed in the Magic 8-Ball.
October 8, 2013 – Clue #7
Opinions are given from many sides
Avoid dwelling on doubts, like some squatters
Allow focus and hope to be your guides
Count on truth to rise from murky waters
"Many sides," references the multi-sided die inside of the Magic 8-Ball and it "rises" to the glass window, once it's turned over to reveal it's answer, which ties into the last line on this clue.
October 9, 2013 – Clue #8
Still so confused? Do we need to rerack?
The clues are spread in many directions.
Big hint here: it’s an iconic throw-back,
That offers 20 different projections.
"Rerack" is a common term in billiards and "20 different projections" is exactly what the enclosed die offers inside of the Magic 8-Ball.
October 10, 2013 – Clue #9
Always so hopeful, she’s picked out her dress
Will he ask her to the Homecoming Dance?
With a flick of the wrist, “Signs Point to Yes!”
And such is the life, with teenage romance!
"Signs Point to Yes," is a direct answer on one side of the die of the Magic 8-Ball.
And HAD we needed the final clue to get a winner, this would've been Friday's clue:
October 11, 2013 – Clue #10
Pondering the clues, feeling uncertain?
Well, stop banging your head against the wall
Lean in close and we’ll pull back the curtain
Revealing that it’s a Magic 8-Ball!
